PHSMS 3/6 – Track Effectiveness and Measure success

Measuring PHSMS (Psychological health and safety management): How to Track the Effectiveness of Mental Health Programs and Make Data-Driven Decisions for Improvement.

First you will have to list all of the Wellness campaigns you currently have and evaluate their status and effectiveness.  Through this you should establish clear objectives and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

Define Goals: Start by setting specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals for your mental health programs. This might include reducing absenteeism, improving employee satisfaction, or increasing engagement.

Identify KPIs: Determine which metrics will indicate success. KPIs may include employee feedback scores, participation rates in mental health initiatives, and changes in productivity levels.

Boxing results:

1.     Analyze Absenteeism and Productivity Data to identify trends in absenteeism and sick leave. A decrease in these rates can indicate that mental health initiatives are having a positive impact.

2.     Track productivity metrics such as output, task completion rates, and overall performance. Improvements in these areas can be linked to better mental health.

3.     Monitor Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Utilization. An increase in usage may indicate that employees feel more comfortable seeking help.  Also obtain reports and feedback from EAP providers to understand the common issues employees are facing and how effectively they are being addressed.

4.     Review Healthcare and Insurance Claims to understand healthcare and insurance claims related to mental health issues. A reduction in claims can suggest that mental health initiatives are effective in preventing or mitigating mental health problems and may offer additional insights.

Conclusion:  Evaluating your existing efforts, finding and tracking data, and analysing results will drive your effectiveness and the measurement of success.  You may be surprised on the sources of data, or shocked by the lack of available data or the accumulation of your data for consumption.  Starting and building proper measurement tools can be complicated, but using evidence will help quantify the cost versus the value of results and ensure data driven decisions.
